During her shopping, Ari Grant, social worker, was in the middle of a robbery. She recognized one of the burglars and when she thought everything was lose for her the Vigilante kept her safe. Who was this man? Nobody knew but he was helping people in spite the police was thinking he was dangerous. Ari was a social worker and had a lot of difficult teenager cases to work with. One of her girls argued that she was kidnapped and force to work in the streets but Ari didn’t believe her and felt guilty for that. During a night out she met a stranger in a bar and felt a strong attraction for him. Needing to get some steam out they make out, only that, and parted ways. But working with one of her boys she met Davis at the Glory Youth Center. He was the strange from the bar and seemed he didn’t recognized her because he was all business with her. She was struggling with her feelings for both, her will-be boyfriend Nick and Davis. When the girls began to disappear and she was stalked in the street things went from bad to worse for Ari. The ugly truth reared her face. Whom she can trust? Her life was at stake. This story shows some of the situations the social workers has to deal with runaway teenagers. The author portrayed the hero fighting with the system to bring alternatives to the less fortunate. The story was fast paced with lot of suspense, action and intrigue. The main characters were strong, defined and the narrations were interesting and to the point. The story was intense. Much emotions playing in there. Liked the development of the story and the vivid and compelling writing style.Tags : Vigilant - Kindle edition by Angel Lawson. Vigilant edition by Angel Lawson Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
I tore through this book in a day. The pacing was perfect, keeping me on the edge of my kindle the whole time. I felt like I was in a movie theatre watching a screen full of pretty boys go by, wondering which one would tear his clothes off to reveal his hidden identity, Ari at the center, not quite knowing whom to trust. The action scenes were gripping, and the, er, gripping scenes full of action.
What I enjoyed the most though, was the realism brought to the story by Ms Lawson's own experiences working in the social system, turning what could have been an excruciating cliche into a poignant and genuine scenario with a heroine who is pretty super herself.
This might be my favorite Angel Lawson book so far!
The heroine is edgy and complex and not at all like me, but so relatable that you are rooting for her in the end. It's refreshing to read about a young woman who is not sort of the bland "everywoman" that so many authors are writing these days in an attempt to make their readers enjoy the story because they can insert themselves into the book. The world in Vigilant isn't my world at all, but I don't need it to be. Angel Lawson is a great storyteller, heavy on both plot and character development, so I don't need to "be" the main character. I get to transport myself into another life - and, afterall, that's usually what I want to read books for. She's a master of the slow romantic build, as well, and Vigilant does not disappoint - in fact, if you're not careful, you might get burned. In a good way!
I thoroughly enjoyed Vigilant, and read it one sitting - I couldn't put it down. There's just the right mix of super hero comic books with urban fantasy, here. Ari, the protagonist, is well developed, with flaws that feel natural to her character. The pace is great - super engaging - and the plot doesn't have huge glaring holes, which I appreciate.
I live in hope that Ari's story is continued; the novel certainly ends in such a way that it seems plausible.
This is such a unique take on superheros. I loved it!
Ari's character is so realistic that I couldn't help but keep turning the pages. Davis is an intriguing character all on his own. I wouldn't mind reading a prequel between him and his brother. I think that would be fascinating. Also, the kiddos that Ari helps throughout the novel pull you in, and you see a side of life that isn't pretty - but is true nonetheless.
I will say that I wish the sex scenes had been a bit more graphic, but that's just my own preference.
Favorite character Davis
Favorite scene When Ari and Oliver are watching the fight competition.
Favorite quote "I'll be quiet," he said, leaning down for another kiss, harder this time.
Would I recommend this? Yes, to readers over 18.
Let me start off by saying Angel is a new to me author. I saw her commenting on a post on facebook and the cover sort of drew me in. I added her, then went to to see what she had. I sampled four books, actually wanted to buy them all, but I am on a horrible book budget at the moment so I had to pick ONE! Yes, I know! For a book hoarder thats like evil hell!
Anyways, I'm digressing.
To put it blunt, I LOVED this book. I mainly loved the story as a whole. It wasn't too much, it wasn't too little it was just the right blend of intrigue possible supernatural, and violence that kept me reading until the end. I devoured this book in one sitting and GOD I WANT MORE DAVIS!!!!!!!!!!! He is like that awesomesause dangerous fellow you know must have a heart of gold under all that hotness. This book is labeled Urban Fantasy, for me it was more suspense/thriller but I see where the fantasy element comes in and I was fascinated by how the author worked it.
The book read like movie. I was alway casting characters in my head and could totally see it on the big screen. I love female characters that are tough but still vulnerable. They have the ability to die or even cry when pushed to far and I need that in my heroes. Invincibility is overrated--this author however is not! I will be wish listing the rest of this authors books and slowly getting them as the budget allows! BRING ON BOOK TWO!!!!!
